DEVOTION | 1 CORINTHIANS 11:1 AMP
“Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.”
How do we imitate those who imitate Christ? First, we must consider the character of Christ to discern if we’re indeed,d imitating Christ-like character, behavior, and integrity.
To imitate anything or anyone for that matter there must be a level of study of the thing we desire to imitate.
That would suggest that to imitate an imitator of Christ there are two study components. The study of Christ and the study of the imitator.
One of the greatest mistakes we make in this endeavor is mistaking RIGHT FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS! Seems like the same right? I submit to you that what is right to man is not always RIGHTEOUS to God!
Discerning the righteousness of God by way of Holy Spirit is the chief requirement for examining or studying imitators of Christ!
We study Christ in His Word and by His Spirit in the spirit which gives us a standard by which we apply our knowledge of Him and His likeness to the lifestyle, fruit, and sound doctrine of the one we desire to imitate.
The beautiful thing about imitating is that we intend to represent the nature, character, and DNA of the one we’re imitating. So, if we successfully imitate an accurate representation of Christ we too will carry the nature, character, and the DNA of Him and not that of the person we imitated.
Imitating Christ requires death to self that should be easily identifiable.
After imitating, you should then become IMITATOR! This is a cycle that should continue for all of eternity in the body of Christ.
As I ponder this reality, I have concluded that we are simultaneously imitating and imitators of Christ AT ALL TIMES!
How well are you represented Christ that others may imitate Him in YOU?!
Until next read,
Waiting well
