Devotion | Isaiah 55:6 AMP
”¶Seek the Lord while He may be found; Call on Him [for salvation] while He is near.“
According to the Interlinear concordance the word seen in this verse is the Hebrew word “daras” STRONG’s H1875.
The meaning of this word has several perspectives to consider as we draw application of this verse in our efforts to weaponize the Word of God.
The most applicable definition of “seek” in this verse is: seek deity in prayer and worship; the true God.
Now let’s look at a few more definitions of this Hebrew work “daras” meaning seek.
— To frequent
— To consult
— Inquire of
— To investigate
— To ask for
— To practice, study, follow, seek with application
— Seek with care
These definitions provide us a more in-depth understanding of this verse contextually as well as its application.
To “seek the Lord while He may be found” implies that at a set time the Lord has appointed a time where we will no longer be able to seek or pursue Him in prayer and worship, there will no longer be the ability to frequent Him, consult or inquire of Him let alone the privilege to practice, study and seek His ways with application.
As I traveled scripture to study this verse in a fullness I was led to 1 Chronicles 28:9 AMP which reads…
”“As for you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father [have personal knowledge of Him, be acquainted with, and understand Him; appreciate, heed, and cherish Him] and serve Him with a blameless heart and a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts and minds, and understands every intent and inclination of the thoughts. If you seek Him [inquiring for and of Him and requiring Him as your first and vital necessity] He will let you find Him; but if you abandon (turn away from) Him, He will reject you forever.“
You see seeking the Lord is more than what is described in the Western definition of the word meaning to “attempt to find”, we as sons of God don’t simply “attempt to find” Him we lay hold of God in an experiential way having personal knowledge of Him, being aquatinted, understanding and appreciating Him, heeding and cherishing Him as our God and Sovereign ruler.
Calling upon Him when the time of need arises is not appropriate we MUST inquire for and of Him, requiring Him as our FIRST & VITAL NECESSITY.
Let’s examine the word “require” , it means to claim or ask for by right and authority! Hallelujah!
Why is this ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY?!
Psalms 14:2 says
”The Lord has looked down from heaven upon the children of men To see if there are any who understand (act wisely), Who [truly] seek after God, [longing for His wisdom and guidance].“
So it is of God’s good pleasure that we “truly seek” after Him longing for His wisdom and guidance!
Psalms 27:8 says
”When You said, “Seek My face [in prayer, require My presence as your greatest need],” my heart said to You, “Your face, O Lord, I will seek [on the authority of Your word].”
To “TRULY” seek God is to require His PRESENCE AS OUR GREATEST NEED! Needing His possessions is incomparable to needing Him!
Here is what happens when we REQUIRE GOD AS A VITAL NEED
Jeremiah 29:12-14 AMP
”Then you will call on Me and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear [your voice] and I will listen to you. Then [with a deep longing] you will seek Me and require Me [as a vital necessity] and [you will] find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you,’ says the Lord, ‘and I will restore your fortunes and I will [free you and] gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you,’ says the Lord, ‘and I will bring you back to the place from where I sent you into exile.’“
Jeremiah 29:12-14 gives us merely a fragment of the depths of pursing God and that which we will attain. We can know without doubt that when we call upon Him, TRULY, come to Him and pray, He will hear our voice and listen. Once found longing for Him and requiring Him as a vital necessity ONLY then will we FIND HIM!
What a reward we have in PURSUING GOD! We are guaranteed restoration, freedom, and liberty!
In the depths of our pursuit our God he is NEAR (Deuteronomy 4:7 AMP).
Are you drawing near?
Until next read
Waiting well,
Apostle Natasha 💜
